Latest software version: 01/10/00
This software is no longer being promoted nor supported. It has been replaced by PCSCAN.COM , a newer and better program with many innovative improvements, support for several different radios and trunk scanning.

The geniuses at Icom think they have created the ultimate technology in the PCR-1000. Impressive as it may be, it has been compromised by Icom's decision to keep the serial control protocol a big secret. It is difficult to imagine the mentality that would open up unlimited possibilities by replacing the control panel with a computer, only to supply a lame Windoze program that has the look, feel and capability of any old scanning receiver you could go buy. So, here is my response to such ironic insolence:

PCR.COM is a DOS program for controlling the PCR-1000 in ways Icom never thought of. Ever since the customer support department at Icom America Inc. told me that there is a $500 licensing fee and an extensive approval process before any top-secret information can be divulged, I have felt it is the duty of anyone with the capability to prove Icom wrong to do so. Therefore I encourage you to download this program, use it and tell Icom what you think.

There are two other derivations available for older computers, handhelds, palmtops and notebooks:

PCR286.COM will run on '188, '186 and '286 computers.

PCR88.COM should run on ANY x86 computer, no matter how old. It still requires a screen with a minimum text resolution of 80 columns by 25 rows.

Each of the three .ZIP files contains one of the above-described programs, plus the following two files:

SCANPROG.TXT tells you what the program does and what you need to do to make it work. View file.

MCH2SCN.COM converts all banks in the PCR1000.MCH file to files BANK00.SCN - BANK19.SCN for use with the PCR program. Only banks containing channels are converted. Once converted, these files may be edited like any other .SCN files.
